Among the documents required for a legal wedding between non-residents are: a valid passport; an official birth certificate (not a photocopy) issued by a government agency (not a hospital); a certificate of single status (if previously married include a certified copy of final divorce decree or death certificate); and proof of residency for 40 days in the community where the marriage will be performed. Dependent on the circumstances of the couple, other documentation may be required. The content of all documents must be translated to French.
If you are determined to be married in Martinique, we advise you to contact the nearest French Embassy, the mairie (town hall) of the community in which you wish to marry, and/or the the tourist office located on the island well in advance for more details, updated information and additional resources.
